Artificial intelligence optimizes production and detailed planning
Lower personnel costs, increased adherence to deadlines and throughput the goal
PP/DS solution available at affordable prices for the first time
Herzogenrath near Aachen, 02.12.2019 – At LogiMAT 2020, SCT GmbH will be presenting the new PP/DS module for DISKOVER for the first time, which uses artificial intelligence to determine the optimum for production and detailed planning in order to facilitate the detailed scheduling of resources for order processing in the manufacturing industry. The new PP/DS module (Product Planning and Detailed Scheduling) optimizes the interaction of materials, capacities and orders on the basis of state-of-the-art heuristics and metaheuristics from the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in order to optimize capacity utilization, throughput, adherence to delivery dates and productivity when scheduling individual order operations. DISKOVER PP/DS orchestrates resource availability, splitting factors, cost parameters, cycle times and plant and shift calendars, among other things. Customers benefit from an extremely powerful PP/DS system that plans much more efficiently than conventional PP/DS solutions, leading to significantly better and more practicable results. Despite the latest AI technology, the new system is also positioned well below the price range of previously available PP/DS systems. The result: production and detailed planning, which is often considered too expensive, is now available at affordable prices for the first time.
“Productivity, adherence to deadlines and throughput are optimized by the new PP/DS tool in a way that people and alternative PP/DS solutions cannot find. We regularly achieve better results in pilot projects. This is of course extremely pleasing for customers, as it results in lower personnel costs and better capacity utilization as well as increased adherence to deadlines and throughput,” explains Andreas Capellmann, Managing Director and Head of Development at SCT GmbH.
“DISKOVER PP/DS is an important milestone on the way to end-to-end automated planning and scheduling for the entire supply chain. We have set ourselves this as an overarching goal, because we want to be able to optimally support Industry 4.0 factories and cross-plant virtual factories in terms of scheduling,” says Dr.-Ing. Bernd Reineke, also Managing Director of SCT, underlining the importance of this launch.
Customers who already work with the established DISKOVER SCO scheduling management system already receive a detailed production plan at work order level with a cross-supply chain material availability check. This plan can now be automatically optimized on the basis of the new DISKOVER PP/DS module. Interfaces to SAP® and other ERP systems can also be used as a supplement. Users have three different methods at their disposal, each of which brings different benefits: Either they use the fully automated integrated material, capacity and order scheduling to obtain AI-optimized production and detailed planning without further intervention. Or they can plan work processes and orders from the DISKOVER planning board manually by dragging and dropping them into the existing available capacity. As a third method, it is possible to plan against unlimited capacity in order to clearly display the current capacity utilization situation of the company.
DISKOVER PP/DS is based on a new fundamental building block from DISKOVER, in which SCT has invested a great deal of time and expertise: the Optimizer. It took a whole three years to complete. It complements the previous central simulation component of DISKOVER SCO, which is used for the empirical simulation of planning and scheduling logics and parameters. Based on the new Optimizer, other tasks will also be implemented in the future to further optimize end-to-end and integrated supply chain planning.

About DISKOVER SCO
The Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) software DISKOVER SCO from SCT Supply Chain Technologies GmbH helps users to optimize the entire supply chain – from procurement, including optional supplier integration, through internal logistics and production, to on-time distribution to the customer. The APS tool is characterized by extensive simulation mechanisms that run automatically in the background and continuously optimize planning and scheduling settings and decisions. In this way, even less technically and professionally experienced users benefit from the high forecasting accuracy and scheduling precision, and companies benefit from sustainably reduced inventories while ensuring the required delivery readiness.
DISKOVER SCO is a flexible tool that is simple and therefore efficient and streamlined to use and is always automatically up to date thanks to innovative continuous delivery. Data is exchanged with leading ERP systems via standardized interfaces.
